Transportation of cremated remains
Updated
Norse allows the transportation of cremated remains on the following conditions.
Cremated remains must be securely sealed within a temporary or permanent ‘security friendly’ container constructed of a lightweight material, such as plastic or wood, and should be carried in cabin baggage.
The container must be scannable (a container returning an opaque image will not be permitted through security, either for checked luggage or for carry-on luggage, and therefore not accepted onboard). Out of respect, screeners will not open a container, even if requested to do so by the passenger.
There is no need to inform our ground agents when checking in/boarding, but it is advisable to arrive early to ensure adequate time for clearance through the security checkpoint.
Copies of the Death certificate, Certificate of Cremation or other appropriate documentation must be carried.
As some countries have additional authorizations that are required, it would also be advisable to contact the Consulate/embassy for the countries the cremated remains are being taken to and from, to identify their specific rules and legal requirements.
